Isaiah
6:9-10
The prophet Isaiah writing (God speaking via scripture...The
Word), what YHWH God told him, in essence that Jews' (as a people) hearts are calloused over, ears
are dull, and eyes closed to hear the Gospel. This strongly suggests an impact on "free
will"...
some Jews and all others can "decide" as to the Gospel.
Wycliffe Bible of 1384:
9 And he seide, Go thou, and thou schalt seie to this
puple, Ye herynge here, and nyle ye vndurstonde; and se ye the profesie, and nyle ye knowe.
10 Make thou blynde the herte of this puple, and aggrege
thou the eeris therof, and close thou the iyen therof; lest perauenture it se with hise iyen,
and here with hise eeris, and vndurstonde with his herte, and it be conuertid, and Y make it
hool.
King James Bible
of 1611: 9And He said, "Go, and tell this
people: "`Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.'
10 Make the heart of
this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and
hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert and be
healed."
NAS Bible of
1960: 9 He said, "Go, and tell this
people: 'Keep on listening, but do not perceive; Keep on looking, but do not
understand.'
10 "Render the hearts of
this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes dim, Otherwise they might see with their
eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be
healed."
NIV Bible
1973-78: 9 He said, "Go and tell this people: " 'Be
ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'
10 Make the heart of this people
calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be
healed."
