Matthew 23:37

Jesus speaking (God speaking via scripture...The Word), in His "seven woes" discourse, telling his disciples and the crowd after encounters with the Sadducees and Pharisees. Does the end of this verse affirm that free will is involved in choosing who to follow?

Wycliffe Bible of 1384:  Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that sleest prophetis, and stoonest hem that ben sent to thee, hou ofte wolde Y gadere togidere thi children, as an henne gaderith togidir her chikenes vndir hir wengis, and thou woldist not.

King James Bible of 1611: O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

NAS Bible of 1960: "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.

NIV Bible 1973-78: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.
