The source is unknown, but I have seen it attributed to having come from native American Indians.
One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.
One is Good: It is composed of joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.
One is Evil: It is composed of anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’ The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you FEED’.
The Evil Wolf or the Good Wolf is fed daily by the choices we make with our thoughts. What you think about and dwell upon will in a sense well up in your life and influence your behavior. We have a choice, feed the Good Wolf and it will show up in our character, habits and behavior positively. Or feed the Evil Wolf and our whole personal world will turn negative and dark. Like poison, this will slowly eat away in a destructive fashion. You will risk becoming evil. This negative deterioration can even get to the point...many believe...of inviting the terrible condition of demonic possession.
To grow the Good Wolf and relate rightly in society with others in a way that unites and builds up requires that you be internally dominated by the Good Wolf.
Let's say that you were not aware of the above and find that your life lacks what you want in terms of quaility and goodness. You hear about the above. You want to change; you want to feed that Good Wolf and starve that Bad Wolf. By far the quickest possible way is to get with people who will help you learn how to live in The Way of Jesus Christ (God as "man")! Once you know enough to accept Jesus as your Guide in The Way (your Savior), you will be immediately blessed by the incoming of God as Spirit (The Holy Spirit) to indwell your mind and heart forever...no matter what.
Thereafter, you are never alone and have inside of you a Divine small voice to help guide you toward The Way and to help you feed that Good Wolf and starve the Bad Wolf. You are on the way to the right relationships of The Way.
