John 8:44

The apostle John writing (God speaking via scripture...The Word), quoting Jesus telling the Jews who had believed in Him & who were now saying that they were children of Abraham and did not need to be freed because they had never been slaves to anyone (what about the 400 years in Egypt?)...Jesus indicating that, if they have strayed so far from Abraham, then they are not under the fatherly influence of Abraham's legacy but the current influence of the father of lies, Satan.

Wycliffe Bible of 1384:

King James Bible of 1611: 44   Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

NAS Bible of 1960: 44   "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

NIV Bible 1973-78: 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
