Anna B. Warner: In her novel, Say and Seal, her character, Mr. Linden, comforts a dying child with the poem that William Bradbury thereafter turned into the Gospel song, "Jesus Loves Me" in 1861. This rapidly became a highly popular song known to every Christian child, even today. The truth of those words is of such bedrock foundation to the Christian experience, that it sinks solidly into the deep recesses of the believer's mind. I was struck by this truth when several Sunday-school mates told stories last Sunday (5/3/07) of almost totally non-responsive Alzheimer's disease patients perking up and talking after hearing the song sung.
