The black mole subdued: Doctors removed a dark skin mole from his side in 1974. They opened him up in 1983 with the terrifying discovery that one of the most fearsome of all cancers, malignant melanoma, had riddled his insides with more tumors than the doctors could count (it was inconceivable that he would live more than 6 months). A 53 years old man and a regularly practicing Christian of the Methodist denomination, he heard his best friend's wife tell of accounts of miraculous healing within the congregation of Trinity Tabernacle (Pentecostal) Church in West Columbia associated with "the laying on of hands". Carter Breeland postoperatively decided to attend and went forward at the invitation to undergo the "laying on of hands". There was a gradual but miraculous disappearance of the tumors. (As a pathologist, I was familiar with his case and had seen the diagnostic slides.) He was the recipient of a miracle!

And this also coincided with his beginning use of "macrobiotics". He became widely locally known as a proponent of macrobiotic dietary treatment of cancer. The cancer returned in 1997, and he died in West Columbia, S. C. in 1998. See other faith & health information [here].
