Recycling for the Children's Home
I was blessed
on 11 Jan. 2018 to read the story of now 86 years old Johnny Jennings of Ringgold, Georgia in the newspaper, Lexington County Chronicle (issue of 11 Jan. 1918), a regular man with a personal ministry who has donated over many thousands of dollars to the Georgia Baptist Childrens Home and Family Ministries, Inc. Mr. Jennings made a committment decades ago at age 18 (about 1949).
At 18, Johnny visited the childrens home with a church member. As they were about to leave after the visit, 3 young boys clung to Johnny's leg and asked him to be their daddy. He thought a minute and then said what would become his lifetime lay ministry, "I'm going to do what I can for the Georgia baptist Children's Home."
Johnny's son gave him the idea of recycling from his son, Brent, who had...upon building his first house, recycled enough stuff to pay his first payment.
Johnny has the proximity of the Chattanooga Recycle Center to buy stuff he accumulates, such as tires, paper (201 tons in 2016), and cans (50 thousand in 2016). He is out and about picking up cans on roadways; and community friends and businesses & several churches (Fellowship Baptist Church in Chickamauga, Cattooga Baptist Church, and Burning Bush Baptist Church) help accumulate stuff and give it to Johnny because they are certain of his committment to come by in his pickup truck and get it.
Over the years, Johnny Jennings has given some $400,000.00 to Georgia Baptist Children's Home!
Jesus did perform a miracle when His Holy Spirit spoke into the mind & heart of Johnny Jennings (YouTube video, HERE & see that news channels Pay it Forward collection of stories)!
