Another Special Life in Christ

These testimony lives are not stories of "role models". Jesus is the role model!
These are lives wonderfully touched & changed by Jesus!

Kristin's health miracle:

Born about 1982, Kristin is the niece of Larry & Cathy Harvey, members of our Sunday School class at North Side Baptist Church, then in West Columbia, S. C. Cathy mentioned this miracle in about September 2002. In Kristin's write-up:

"Thank you for letting me share my personal journey with God. I hope that I can touch your heart like God has touched mine.

"June 14, 1995 changed my life forever. It was the summer between the 7th and 8th grade when I got a life threatening disease called Encephalitis. It attacks your major organs, in my case it was my brain. My symptoms were flu-like including fever and being very weak. My parents knew it was something more when I began talking 'baby talk' and lost the ability to swallow.

"After being discharged from the emergency room, followed up the next day with my pediatrician, I was admitted into intensive care at Baptist and my care turned over to a wonderful physician, Dr. Tom Paulson. I believe he was an instrument for the Lord to work through to save my life.

"Shortly after arriving to the hospital and examination I continued quickly to go downhill. My reflexes were not responding correctly. My doctor gave a tentative diagnosis but ordered many tests to confirm his suspicion. He ordered a MRI and before it could be completed I had a seizure that sent me into a coma. a spinal tap was ordered to obtain more information. I was in a coma for four days. My doctor was concerned about failure of other important organs like my lungs and heart. My doctor put me on a heavy antibiotic without knowing if it would help to fight off my type of encephalitis. He made the right call.

"I like to refer to my coma as 'sleeping'. While sleeping something wonderful and very special happened. I saw a bright light at an end of a tunnel with angels guiding me towards it. I was moving towards that light when I heard a man's voice and seeing a glance of Jesus' face for a few seconds. He told me, 'It is not your time to go.' A second later, I woke up in intensive care. Right away I realized I couldn't speak. Later I learned that I had also changed spiritually. I had an uphill climb.

"It took 4 long years of intensive hard work and therapy to give me back what was taken away. I had to learn to walk again, eat again because I couldn't swallow, and finally talk again. I had many doctors and therapists who pushed me and taught me these things as best I could. It was a long battle, but no one would give up on me and I would not give up on myself. My parents kept things moving in a positive direction, which taught me to set goals and achieve each one as best as I could. My grandparents helped support me in any way they could. I know the hard work and dedication paid off. I know I am not the same as before my illness in many ways, but I like to say, 'I have a special southern accent!'

"My illness also changed me spiritually. I know God has a reason for his Divine Intervention. It taught me that in my time of need, i could count on the Lord. He does listen and he still walks my journey with me. Together we try and make a difference.

"Another goal I set for myself was to graduate from high school. After making up for time lost, and having a learning disability I still graduated on time with my class of 2000. I think the hardest part after my illness was when I returned to school. Everyone thought I was an odd ball because I couldn't talk at first and then afterwards couldn't accept my speech impairment.

"I am currently going to Midlands Tech to get my Associate in Arts degree. After Tech, I am planning on going to Columbia College. My future goal is to become a Special Education teacher to help kids who may be a little different and need special help. because of my experience, I hope to help them achieve their goals.

"I want to leave you with this. Matthew 7 'Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way that you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure that you use, it will be measured to you.' It is easy to judge but it is hard to get redemption if you judge his children. The Lord has taught me this the hardest way. I ask that you pray for me to help me continue my journey. In November 2003, an e-mail came to me from "Nancy" to pray for a friend's softball-playing, cheerleading, college-aged daughter, Nicole, in the Pittsburgh area who had encephalitis. It became complicated by a bad bacterium (MRSA). An e-mail came to me 11/30/04 (a year later) from Nancy that Nicole had just come home from a year in the hospital with a little brain damage and life saved by a huge miracle. Family was told three times during the past 12 months that Nicole was nearly dead.

On Nov. 5th 2003, on Fox News' the O'Reilly Factor, they interviewed a lady who was in a vegetative state when "they" pulled her feeding tube. Her husband, a lawyer, was sure that she knew what was going on and screamed and  hollered and threatened to sue "everyone  in the world"...they finally put the tube back in. The lady said that she experienced the worst and most vivid hunger pains without her feedings. She has lived to write a book!
