Another Special Life in Christ
These testimony lives are not stories of "role models". Jesus is the
role model!
These are lives wonderfully touched & changed by Jesus!
Daughter who had cancer is source of
strength:
I had a surprise conversation on another topic
with her father, chief of pathology at another hospital, on 6 April 2000. At age 21, almost 2
years ago, they discovered that she had a lung tumor. Doctors tried a needle biopsy and then
a transbronchial biopsy. Though the local pathologists couldn't make a certain diagnosis,
they wouldn't allow her father to be involved in the case or seek consultation at the
father's preferred consultation source. Doctors decided, therefore, that they must open
Nadine's chest and possibly take the lung out...depending on the results of a rapid frozen
section diagnosis (if lymphoma, lung stays in; if nonlymphomatous cancer, the lung comes
out). Though they couldn't decide the correct frozen section diagnosis themselves as
beautiful Nadine was in the OR, they wouldn't allow Ziad to also look at his daughter's
frozen section slides. In the absence of a clear diagnosis, the surgeons...not wanting to
take a chance...removed that whole lung and the tumor. I can remember myself and some
associates being involved in prayer for Nadine and the family in 1998.
Though there have been
many frustrations then and in the intervening 2 years , this physician told me that the
experience was life changing. Faced with postoperative chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin's large
cell malignant lymphoma and the possibility that his daughter would die, "I learned...and
continue... to thank God for each and every day! Our faith has steadily increased. But the
most amazing thing for us is the comfort that the strength and depth of Nadine's faith has
given her mother and me. Her belief is so strong that she is not afraid and is at peace; this
has made a huge difference in the peace in which her parents live."
The Al-asaad's have grown
in the faith as members of the Greek Orthodox branch of Christianity. Rather than her former
straight hair, Nadine now radiates her personal and spiritual beauty with post-chemotherapy
hair that came back curly. To this date (4/00), though plagued by a bothersome chronic cough,
she remains cancer free. By 6/2006, she has become a nurse. See other faith & health
information [here].
