Wessinger to S.C.,
1752
From the bound papers of Rev. V.
L. Fulmer of Newberry, S.C., at the main branch of the Lexington Co. Public Library, one finds that
Mathias Wessinger arrived in Charleston, S.C. in 1752 on board the snow Rowand.
He arrived with an un-named wife
and 3 small children. At the time Rev. Fulmer compiled his papers, he was confident that all of the
old family Wessingers in central South Carolina were descended from Mathias Wessinger's two sons,
Mathias, Jr. and Michael.
The original bounty land grant was
for 250 acres on the north side of the "Saludy" River just below St. Michael's Lutheran
Church.

A previous annual reunion begun in
1937 became the annual Lindler Reunion at St. Thomas Church near Chapin, S. C., which held its 63rd
annual reunion in 2001.
