Clorox as a
germicidal agent:
DISCLAIMER, HERE
Sodium hypochlorite is sold for household
purposes as a 3-6% solution. The following a NOT recommendation; it is information. If any of the following
"burns" or make things worse, I immediately wash off any & don't do it again. They are simply some
uses that I have made & like to use. Most consider this solution as a bleach. I like the
germicidal properties. See this source for many more details of properties & uses, etc. Our mouth,
gum, throat, and skin surfaces have a normal population of friendly bacterial germs that are
beneficial (part of our microbiome); I don't ordinarily want to kill them off. But I DO want to kill disease-causing bacterial,
fungal, and viral germs. Though I don't necessarily use the following, here are some possible home uses to consider:
- Waterpik gum
care: I may put less than 1/8th of a teaspoonful of Clorox into the full water reservoir
of the Waterpik machine. As I finish waterpiking between all of my teeth, I DO NOT swallow any
of the "left-over" water in my mouth. I wait briefly and then spit &
rinse.
- Clorox mouth sores or ulcers: Diluting some Clorox just as weak as with the
Waterpik gum care, above, & being careful that I DO NOT swallow any of the liquid water I
maid, I can hold some in my mouth over the ulcer several times a day...spit & rinse mouth
well.
- Clorox sore
throat rinse: Diluting some Clorox just as weak as with the Waterpik as with the
Waterpik gum care, above, & being careful that I DO NOT swallow any of the liquid water I
maid, I can hold some in my mouth over the back of my sore throat several times a day...spit
& rinse mouth & throat well.
- Clorox for
acne sores you just opened & other open skin sores: Diluting some Clorox just as
weak as with the Waterpik as with the Waterpik gum care, above, I can either dab a little
directly on the just-opened acne pimple or infected hair follicle. For those two types of
sores, I rinse off the Clorox for no more than 10 minutes & rub in a tiny amount of
either Vaseline or Vicks VapoRub; & the greasiness helps to delay biological sealing off of the small
sore so that it can continue to microscopically drain out any bacterial
germs. See my note on acne prevention, HERE.
- Clorox for
new skin scrapes or older sores that are hurting: new scrapes may have ground some
microscopic germ-filthy material into the skin of the scrape, and I want to kill those
contaminating germs [for a skin injury that has become sore, I prefer diluted Lysol concentrate soaks]. Making the above dilute Clorox solution, I can soak a small piece of
cloth with it and lay that wet cloth onto the hurt or sore area for about 10 minutes. Then
rinse off, coat thinly with some Vaseline or Vicks VapoRub, as above, and bandage (check out masking tape
bandage).
- Clorox for
stinky feet cure: Rather than Lysol solution for the socks & shoes
cleaning part of stinky feet cure, use the below stronger vegetable cleaning process to soak
all the contaminated socks and the insides of the contaminated shoes.
- Clorox for
cleaning store bought fresh vegetables: being careful to not make it too powerful (use
about a cup of Clorox per 5 gallons of water), fill the sink with water and put vegetables in
for 10-30 minutes. When entirely finished, discard or drain away the soaking solution and
thoroughly rinse the soaked vegetables.
