Another Special Life in Christ

Kathy Ireland: 

She was born 20 march 1963 in Glendale, California and grew up in Santa Barbara. In the 1990s, she was one of the most famous fashion super models in the world. She had her own paper route as a youngster (11 years old); and through that, her father told her to always give 110% at whatever she did. When she was 12 & hit a real teen growth spurt, they called her "Spaghetti Legs".

Do parents make a difference? Beginning before her mother went to nursing school, Kathy well remembers her mom's favorite saying, "An optimist wakes up and says, 'Good morning, Lord!' and a pessimist wakes up and says, 'Good Lord, it's morning!'" As the family had dinner together, her union-official dad would often say, "Thank you, Lord, for making me the richest man in the world!" What positive outlooks...based on Jesus! "Whenever we'd pull over for an ambulance, Mom would pray aloud, 'God, please be with whoever is in danger.'"

Shortly before Kathy turned 18 her mother became a Christian while attending nursing school. "She was inspired by one of her classmates," Kathy says. "She had been searching and that’s how she ended up packing a Bible in my suitcase when I went off to Paris to start modeling at 18."

It was during her first modeling trip to Paris, when she was 18, that Kathy Ireland became a Christian. "I was really lonely there and staying in a home where I didn’t feel comfortable," she says. Every day, she would come home from work, lock herself in her room and read her Bible. "I just happened to turn to the Gospels; and, as I read, my eyes and my heart just opened up. God just knew what I needed. A few years later, while she was visiting her mom at her hospital job, her mom saw her notice a young doctor. Kathy's life went on another change after her mom invited that doctor over for a family lunch...2 years later she married Greg.

It would be many years later before she became convinced that the formation of an entirely new human being began at conception. And she is now quite a public figure on the side of the pro-life, anti-abortion issue. On the Fox cable channel's O'Reilly Factor of 30 September 2002, I heard her boldly, compassionately, AND (without a tone of judgmentalism) toward the pregnant women proclaim, "..abortion is murder!"
